Inspired by my good friend Jamie Sauder, I've decided to become a bee keeper! Not here in the city, mind you, but at the cottage.
A couple of years ago I gave my mom a 'gift' of worms - a vermicomposter and a bunch of red wigglers. I have to put the word 'gift' in quotes, because I'm not sure she thinks it was truly a gift - it has required perhaps more time and energy than a gift really should. As dad says, 'you can buy a whole lotta good dirt for what it cost you to buy the worms.' But I thought it was a great addition to the whole sustainability lifestyle they're cultivating. The worms are now happily stabilized and even dad seems to have grown attached to them - okay that may be stretching it, but...
